District Projects

While park and recreation development trends have evolved over time, Southgate's tradition has been to create places conducive and adoptable to many different recreation activities, allowing residents the opportunity to foster a healthy lifestyle. In order to satisfy the needs of current and future Southgate residents, it is essential to incorporate new trends in facilities and park planning and to maintain and/or renovate existing facilities. The planning department is responsible for both short and long term planning functions related to the District's Master Plan, the Sacramento County General Plan, and other special planning area projects within its service area, as well as reviewing environmental and policy planning documents.

The planning department reviews subdivision maps within its boundaries, and oversees park and recreation facility planning and development, including parks, parkways and trails, outdoor recreation facilities, community centers and landscape corridors. The Department is responsible for both new capital improvement projects as well as refurbishment projects. Over the next twenty years the District will be focusing on projects within its existing community plan areas, as well as new areas like North Vineyard Station and the Florin-Vineyard GAP Community.

Through these planning and construction efforts, the Southgate Recreation & Park District will define park and recreation facilities and amenities desired by its residents, set priorities and allocate funding. The results of these efforts by the District will be to help create community for its residents!
