Future District ProjectsRainbow Park Community GardenThe District is in the process of creating a community garden at Rainbow Park with help from Bill Maynard, Founder of the Sacramento Area Community Garden Coalition. This community garden will give residents a space to start their own garden; interact with neighbors and share gardening tips and advice; and learn the many benefits that gardening can have. We will hold several public meetings that will discuss community gardens in general and the design for this garden as well as volunteer opportunities. For more information about the garden and to get your name on the sign-up list call (916) 422-7610. Public Meetings

Vineyard Community Center and Aquatics Facility, Churchill Downs North Community Park and District Support FacilityThe final Schematic Design Plans for the Vineyard Community Center, Churchill Downs North Community Park, and District Support Facility were approved by the District Board in October 2010. The total project site which consists of approximately 12 acres is located on Waterman Road, north of Vintage Park Drive. The schematic site plan included an area next to the community center for the future development of an aquatic facility. Due to current favorable market interest rates, the District was able to obtain additional financing that will allow us to complete the design and construction of an aquatic swim facility at this time along with the preparation of construction documents for the community park and construction of some of the proposed park improvements. The design team, consisting of Monighandesign and The HLA Group, has been authorized to move forward with construction documents. Upon completion of the plans they will go to the County for Plan Check and then the project will be put out to bid. Construction is expected to start spring 2012.
Vineyard Road Landscape Corridor Tree ProjectThe District recently hired a certified arborist to complete a site survey of the trees in the landscape corridors along Vineyard Road to determine broad forest trends and to obtain recommendations for the care and maintenance of the trees. The first phase of the project will include the removal of trees that are in poor health, have poor structure, and those trees that have tree/infrastructure conflicts, or tree spacing conflicts. This is a process that will be completed in phases as time and resources allow. In order to address the limited bio-diversity of the landscape corridors we will be expanding the existing species palette based on the arborist's recommendations as we move forward with selective tree removal and re-planting. It is the District's desire to develop a future-oriented action plan for the Vineyard Springs community geared toward a healthy, stable urban forest including improving the biodiversity of the landscape corridors. The District will be hiring a contrator to begin tree removal work in early 2012. For moreinformation about the project call (916) 428-1171 ext, 29. View Larger Map
