The Tillotson Parkway Extension Project starts at the intersection of Elk Grove-Florin Road at Brittany Park Drive and proceeds easterly to Waterman Road where it opens into the Robert D. Cochran Park, on the corner of Waterman Road and Westray. This is an extension of the existing Tillotson Parkway, which starts at Power Inn Road at Meadowhaven Drive. This extension is approximately sixty-five (65) feet wide and almost a mile in length and includes trees, shrubs, turf, sitting areas, special focal points and an 8’ wide concrete path.
The Robert D. Cochran Park is approximately 4.5 Acres and includes playgrounds, a half-basketball court, landscaping, soccer and little league fields and picnic areas. The park was named after former Board Member, Robert D. Cochran, who served on the Board for over 30 years. He was an advocate for the community and was only interested in providing the Best of park and recreation services to the South Sacramento Community.
The District hired the Landscape Architecture firm of Callander Associates to design and see this parkway and park project through to construction. After receiving input from the community at public meetings, a final design was approved and construction drawings were completed. Construction began in Spring 2003 and the project is scheduled to be completed by the Spring of 2004. The Park is substantially complete and is in its 90 day maintenance period. Most of the parkway landscape plantings are in. Due to cold temperature the grass cannot be seeded until March when the temperature warms up. This will delay the parkway section opening until May or June. We appreciate the communities help in staying out of the fenced area especially during this sensitive establishment and maintenance period. This is when plants and turf are most sensitive. As soon as the fence comes down the park and parkway will be healthy and ready for your enjoyment.
The parkway and park were designed by Ben Woodside, from Callendar Associates and is being built by Goodland Construction. The District hopes to open the park in late Spring 2004 and will have a dedication event for the community at that time. Check this web page for further information regarding the future date for that event!
